Frank Mackle III, son of the developer of Marco Island, tells of the first time his late father saw its beautiful white-sand beaches in the early 1960s. “This is the place,” Frank Mackle, Jr. declared. Listening to Beverly Albrets talk about glass, you can still hear the wonder she felt as a child, sitting in church and getting lost in the stained-glass windows. “I had an intense amount of interest in stained glass as a child,” she recalls. “I went to church with my grandmother, not because I was interested in the sermon, but because I was so taken with the color and the glass. I would become entranced by the way the sun illuminated the vivid colors.”
